Today we have started to prototype arm designs. Ramsey, Griffin V., and Wes are working on what designs will take hold of the totes and recycling bins the best.

Sage, Ramsy, Griffen, Austin, and Tommy have been working on how long it would take for the robot to move around and pile up totes and recycling bins. We believe that we will only be able to carry 3 totes at a time right now.

Sage, Alex, Jasper, Kile, Griffin K., and Ritwik are updating the blog and website. We are excited to soon be selling LED lightbulbs online!

We're excited to design and build our robot and debut it to the world! Stay tuned for more updates! Meetings are Wednesday nights, Friday nights, Saturdays, and Sundays. We still have open slots for food and supervision. Sign ups at http://www.signupgenius.com/go/904044fa8ae238-team. See you at Robotics!

Hello everyone,

And here are the candidates! Remember, the election is on Friday, May 16th, 2014, at 1:00 pm in C-2, Mr. DeCurtin's room. On that day you guys will be voting for 1 President and 2 Vice-Presidents. If for some reason you can not come and vote on Friday (Middle School people), just send your vote to me or Ryan via email.

Candidates for President:

  • Tommy Yu

Candidates for Vice-President:

  • Thatcher Freeman
  • Ben Hickman
  • Sequoia Snow

Campaign Statements:

Thatcher Freeman

Next year, I will promote tool and software training, component quality, and robot flexibility. Solidworks and power tool training is essential towards member involvement and efficiently building high quality parts. We will host numerous meetings over the summer to hone those skills. Additionally, the flexibility of a robot, or how easily it can pick up and shoot balls or frisbees, is a huge factor in the team's success. Therefore, if I am voted vice president, I will push for universal training and involvement, and the creation and implementation of resilient designs with the highest possible quality.

Ben Hickman

Hello M-A Robotics, I am Ben Hickman;

I am running for vice-president. This season many students have been uninvolved in the build season and jobless, one of the reasons for this is the small amount of mentors and seniors on the team this year who can teach inexperienced kids about robotics. Next year we will have fewer seniors meaning that we must compensate with more mentors who can teach the younger generation the ropes during the build season. As vice president my main goal would be fund raising, sponsorships, and getting mentors, all three of which go hand in hand.

Sequoia Snow

Hello everyone,

I am hoping to become one of the vice presidents of robotics next year to help guide our team through the next season. I know that the past year many of you have had rather little to do, so I was hoping to involve everyone in the construction of our robot. I’d also like for team members to drive the past robots, if they want, so they can improve their skills for competitions as well as encourage any projects members of the team might like to work on. I’m looking forward to having a great season with all of you.

Thanks,

Sequoia

Tommy Yu

Hello MA Robotics, my name is Tommy Yu, and I am running as president. My main goal as President is to get everybody involved on the team. I mean EVERYBODY, including the middle schoolers. To accomplish this, I hope to establish both a build team, which would focus on the construction and design of the robot, and a separate PR/outreach team that would help raise awareness of the team and lead our outreach program. Regarding the build team, I would like to have subgroups focused on construction, electronics, programming, and design. The media team on the other hand, would focus on scouting at competitions, maintaining the website, building field elements (if necessary), and help develop game strategy. I feel if we can work together as a team and pick up more sponsors, there’s no limit to what we can do.

Hello everyone,

Due to recent developments, we're changing how elections work this year. We're switching to a revised version of the old system, where there will be 1 President and 2 Vice-Presidents.

These positions are separate and mutually exclusive. You must run for President or Vice President. You can not run for both, and the presidential runner-up will not become a vice president.

The President will take on a more managerial role, allocating resources and managing people. Vice presidents will act much like sub-team leads, and oversee various aspects of the team, like electronics, media, build, etc.

If you want to run, email us your name, a brief statement (100 words) and the position you're running for by Wednesday, May 14, 2014 at 11:59 p.m. If you already sent Ryan an email, you'll have to send another one.

The election will occur on ;Friday, May 16th, 2014, at 1:00 p.m. in Mr. DeCurtins room. If you can not make the election (like you go to Hillview/La Entrada), email us your votes by that date.

We'll send out an email with the winners as soon as the votes are tallied.

-Patrick Tam & Ryan Mostofi

The robotic web/file server suffered extended downtime from 11:34 PDST on 2014/4/12 to 10:15 PDST on 2014/4/13 while we migrated from our previous hosting provider, Linode, to Amazon Web Services. The transition will be completed within the next couple days, though no additional downtime should occur. -Patrick Tam

Hello everyone,

It's a bummer we did so poorly at SVR, good thing we're already going to Championships!

In case you didn't hear, we had serious wiring problems at SVR. While transporting the robot, wires came loose so we lost power to several key pieces of electronics equipment. Our radio lost power during 3 matches, leaving us dead in the water. Additionally, several motor wires came loose throughout the event.

We rewired the entire robot after qualification matches on Saturday, so we shouldn't have any problems at Championships (hopefully). All wires are now crimped with a working crimper (our connections came loose because our crimper was improperly adjusted) and connections are soldered. They shouldn't come loose again.

We as a team failed to wire the robot properly, and paid dearly for it. Most importantly, we learned that every wire must be made and maintained properly.

We will have a meeting on Wednesday, April 9th, 2014, from 5pm to 9pm.

We'll be packing up tools and supplies for Championships, and boxing up the robot.

Hello Everyone,

We need people to go to Laurel on Friday morning for Outreach. Nobody has signed up so far, and none of the pit crew can go (cuz we're at SVR). We've gone there for many years, and they expect us to be there. We only need 2-3 people.. Please contact me by Tuesday if you can go.

There's been some confusion about when we're having meetings lately. All meetings are posted on the Team766 website and Google Calendar.

This meeting will consist mostly of packing and cleaning. We'll be packing up for SVR, and some people will drive down at 6:30 to drop everything off at SJSU. The rest will stay to clean up and organize the closet.

BTW we got a used laser cutter for free! It needs a new laser tube, but soon we'll be able to laser stuff.

Sorry for my unresponsiveness to emails as of late. Life just gets in the way.

Hello Everyone,

YAY! We won Davis! That's awesome.

Anyways, we'll be having a robotics meeting on SUNDAY March 23, 2014, from 10am to 5pm

I'm sure you guys are wondering "why are we having a robotics meeting on Sunday?!?". Well, the Senior Fashion Show is on Saturday, so a bunch of Seniors can't show up.

Mostly, we'll be fixing up the practice robot we tore apart at Davis, but we also need to do all this stuff on this list that Kelly made.

1. New Pit Cart - (Wesley)
  • smaller cart that fits in tall crate
  • stands that hold up robot (like a car lift)

2. Pit Organization- (?)

  • PVC banner holder
  • organize tool boxes (we got new ones because we're not taking the big giant tool chest to SVR/ Champs, shipping the whole thing would cost a fortune...)
  • make "pit passes" (only a limited amount of people allowed into the pit at one time)
  • look at getting new shelves (existing ones are broken)

3. Ball pickup arms - (Tommy?)

  • modify gripper piston mounts for larger air fittings
  • air tank holders on pistons
  • chain access holes
  • build up 2nd arm to duplicate the first arm

4. Scouting/Sales Presentation (Kaveh/Skyler/Ariel)

  • Formalize a scouting team for SVR and Championships
  • Locate or design a scouting sheet/excel spreadsheet for scouting data
  • Create “sales presentation” of the robot specifications and capabilities
  • use video from practice at Nasa -
  • load onto tablet to show videos to teams etc
  • also have 1 page paper handout for other teams

5. Bumpers (AnnMarie?)

  • look into building a single bumper with reversible colors -
  • allows for reinforced corners (like 2012 bumper)
  • reduces time between matches to switch bumpers, less space in crate to Championship

6. Assemble Practice bot

  • Probably the most important item on this list lol.

7. Change winch speed controllers to Jaguars (find mounting location for Jaguars)

add limit switches - 1 directly to jaguars, 1 to digital side car

Hello Everyone,

We went to NASA on Sunday, and managed to get both autonomous and teleop shooting figured out.

We can now effectively score in teleop and consistently shoot 2 balls into the 10 point goal during autonomous.

We also did some defense and passing practice with 971, who were also there.

Hello Everyone,

To prepare for the regional at Davis we'll have a couple of meetings in the next week to make final parts for the robot and pack for Davis.

Also, if you're going to Davis during Thursday or Friday you need to get a permission slip from Mr. DeCurtins and return it before Thursday of next week.

Friday .......... March 7 from 5pm - 9pm
Saturday ...... March 8 from 1pm - 5pm
Wednesday .. March 12 from  5pm - 9pm

On Saturday from 3pm - 5pm we'll be handing out T-Shirts and the contact cards. Please pick them up.

Also, if you're coming to Davis and want to attend the group dinner on Friday, please sign up here.

Since most work on the robot has been done, only people fabricating parts on the CNC/Mill will have work. Everybody else get's to help me clean the closet. Woo!

Hello everyone,

We're going to have a meeting on Wednesday, February 26th, from 5pm to 9pm.

We're taking a one week long break from building. Hopefully you will all be able to catch up on sleep and schoolwork missed during the build season.

Thanks so much to everybody who came and helped build the robot during the final weekend. We finished our practice bot and our main robot (the black powder coated one). We'll just have to attach a new arm and catapult at Davis.

Also, special thanks to all the parents/teacher who supervised and provide food during the long weekend. We wouldn't be able to survive without you.

During this meeting, we'll work on the aforementioned arm and catapult, and maybe practice with the completed practice bot.

Hello everyone,

Just a reminder, we have a build meeting on Wednesday, January 29, from 5pm-9pm.

After numerous prototypes, we've decided to mostly finalize the design of our robot around a drop down u shaped collector arm and catapult (Ryan and Kelly will continue to work on prototyping a hybrid of the linear punch and catapult designs).

We've decided to go with the catapult because our efforts at miniaturizing the linear punch and kicker designs produced less than satisfactory results.

The next couple meetings will be devoted to CADding the robot and manufacturing parts for the final drivetrain.

Here's a video of a prototype catapult ball launcher design we've been working on.

The people who are signed up to supervise/feed the Wednesday meeting are..

WED 1/29/2014 5-7 Mostofi
Dinner Tam pork stew, rice, bread veggie stew
    7-9 Tam

As usual, meetings will always be posted on the Google Calendar here.

Finally, I've set up a blog on the team website. For now, it just mirrors these emails, but I hope to get others to contribute to the website eventually.

Just a reminder, we have a build meeting tomorrow, Friday, January 10, from 5pm-9pm

Yesterday's meeting was super productive, we managed to complete a prototype for the ball shooter/launcher, pickup mechanism, and we're almost done with the drivetrain base.

Just to clarify, during the build season we have meetings

  • Wednesday 5pm-9pm
  • Friday 5pm-9pm
  • Saturday 9am-5pm

If you're ever unclear when we have a meeting, all robotics related events are posted to the team website.

We'll be having a robotics meeting on Sunday, January 5th, 2014 from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm

We'll be running this extra meeting because Ryan and I think we need the extra time to prototype. Though it's not that much time in the grand scheme of things, getting prototypes done early is crucial to staying on schedule, and that's something we've struggled to do for the past few years.

Please sign up for snacks and supervision here.
